"I was excited to receive my copy of Moon Camino de Santiago. The Camino is a magical place I am planning to return to do the entire trek. In the meantime, this book is my constant companion. It is clear the writer is an expert, not only on the logistics, but the things most pilgrims may miss. This book also reminds me that the Camino is not a race, but rather a journey - whether spiritual or personal adventure. I love the information on the local markets because some of the local food experiences are the best way to find common ground when traveling. Plus it will be a less expensive way of eating healthy. The map included in the book is a wonderful surprise and I will conclude that the author seems to take seriously the motto of walking lightly on this earth. Buen Camino!"

Moon Camino de Santiago Sacred Sites Historic Villages Local Food Wine Travel Guide Beebe Bahrami 9781640493285 Books Reviews
- There has a wealth of wonderful information about history, culture, as well as sites, nightlife, fine dining, good lodging.... which might be ideal if you have money and plan to stay in private rooms and play tourist.
For people like me, who walk the whole thing and stay in albergues, it would be a good secondary, kindle guide for cultural and historical features. But as a primary guide? I just compared this Moon guide to Logrono with my Brierly, and this guide missed almost all the albergues! So, if you're a more traditional peregrino, and this is your only guide, you may experience difficulties finding a bed.
Also, if you like to hold paper instead of being totally dependent on your electronics, this weighs a full pound, compared to 9 oz with Brierley.
The map in the back sleeve is beautiful! But upon closer inspection it isnt as useful as the ones embedded in the Brierly. And without the physical map, the rest of the book is of much less use.
I may buy a kindle version to complement Brierly. But judging from my last 2 caminos (the Frances, and the Via de la Plata), I was too caught up with the constant stimulation of my surroundings and camino amigos to do much reading. - Probably the best guide I’ve come upon - with excellent maps - loads of tips you just don’t get in other guides! I’ll have to get the kindle version for my next Camino.
- That was my first comment to my wife after reading Beebe Bahrami’s Moon Camino de Santiago. The second was “it weighs a pound, but it’s also available on .†Third comment to her was “and it has an excellent removable map – they could sell the map all by itself for $10.†Fourth comment “it’s a gorgeous full color book, very well laid out. It’s crammed with detail – localized maps, village descriptions, restaurant descriptions, accommodation info, history, legends. How could they possibly sell this for only $23.99?â€
This book contains the detailed information you would need to walk the Camino de Santiago such as an Essentials section with a packing list, but it is also suitable for someone who wants to drive the route and soak up the essence of the way. There is a 20-day driving itinerary.
This is the only comprehensive guidebook that I know of. Others are mainly focused on the route, where to stay, where to eat, and the main attraction of towns and cities. This is probably in the interest of keeping the weight down, a worthy goal; however in looking at this Moon guide, I am reluctant to drop any of the text. It is all stuff I want to know. What I would suggest is buying the paperback and reading it cover to cover before leaving home, and then getting the version for reading on your device during the trip. I would also carry the paper map insert.
I do have a niggling little problem with the book. Because there is so much information, it is fairly difficult for a novice hiker to quickly grasp the possible day-by-day itinerary. The author appears to be a strong walker; her daily stages are frequently 25 to 30+ kilometers. However, she does show the intermediate possibilities for accommodation and food both in the text and on the inserted map. The information is there, but it is difficult to find. You can’t instantly glance at the map and know how far it is to the next place to stay – it requires some mental arithmetic. A simple spreadsheet included with the map or posted as a link would be helpful.
I strongly recommend the Moon Camino de Santiago to anyone contemplating this journey.
In the interest of full disclosure, my wife received a free review copy of Moon Camino de Santiago, and I snatched it up, as I try to keep current on Camino de Santiago guidebooks. - I have been anxiously awaiting this book ever since I met Beebe in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port at the train station, where I was setting out on my first camino. She told me she was there to research this book. She focuses on the traditional Christian route, but also on the ancients who experienced this path long before Christ walked the earth. The reality of this book far exceeded my expectations. Beebe embraces the complete Camino experience so you know your options. She provides you with all the information needed for you to walk your own camino. She has a wonderful way with words to describe an experience that to me is indescribable. She entices me to once again walk under the Milky Way.
- I am preparing to walk the Camino for the 8th time. This is the Guide ( edition) I will have in my pack. Having authored the book, "Returning From Camino" a pre-publication print copy of this Guide was sent me to review. But having read it, I then purchased a copy.
To my understanding of the history and culture of Spain (as well as the Camino), this is the Guide I have longed to have. Beebe's writing is clear yet lyrical and descriptive. Her suggestions are spot on. And the information in this Guide is comprehensive, from foods to sacred sites. The Guide even includes a section of English phrases (translated into Spanish) that a pilgrim might need, i.e. what to say when calling for a taxi.
Thank you, Beebe. Your work has produced a gem. I trust this Guide will become a classic. - Alexander John Shaia, author of "Returning From Camino." - I was excited to receive my copy of Moon Camino de Santiago.
